Simple, Hidden Design

Blue Ox Base Plate With Arms AttachedBlue Ox Base Plate Arms Removed

This base plate's hidden design creates a clean and seamless look. The bracket arms are easily removable, creating a slick appearance when you're not flat towing. Because the arms can be removed, you also won't have to worry about banging your leg into any protruding arms when you walk by.

Blue Ox Base Plate Removable Arms

Attaching and removing the bracket arms is a breeze. To attach the arms to the base plate, simply insert them into the receivers and rotate them until they lock into place. Once you're finished towing and want to remove the arms, pull the pin to disengage the lock, rotate the arms, and remove them from the receivers. Finally, plug up the now empty receivers with the included receiver covers to help keep dirt and debris out of the base plate and provide a finished look.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

The order was almost right but not the fault of Etraler. One of the nuts was fouled. I was very pleased with the way E trailer handled the problem. They quickly shipped out a replacement. Very nice folks that seem to care about their clientele. I will defiantly use them again.

First we want to rate etrailer service- it was excellent! Items arrived on time. The video on the web was very helpful & Blue Ox sent good instructions in the box. The installation went well, completed in 3 days. Couple of points on the instructions/install; On the bumper fascia you will have to do a LOT of trimming, and it's a matter of trying to get it back on, numerous times. Also once you finally get it trimmed to fit with base plate installed, snapping in the fascia is not easy, it's push & shove to get it back on. The only other issue is getting those hex nuts screwed into the bolts, there is very little room to work & you have to get the nut lined up EXACTLY before the screw will fit. We painted the one side of it white to see it through the drilled holes better, you will also need someone to hold a flashlight while the other person tries to get it bolted on. Then you have to be ready to put the locktite on before the nut slips out of place. Patience, patience, patience!!!
Luckily my husband has lots of it - he read & reread the instructions before he started-had all his tools lined up & then went to it - I just kept my mouth shut & held the flashlight & helped him with the bumper fascia.
He is out in the garage now installing the wiring harness. We had to wait to order the receiver hitch (10") until the base plate was installed & we could line it up with our RV & figure the difference (2012 Chevy Equinox). We live in Prescott AZ & hope to leave for a trip to the Grand Canyon & Santa Fe New Mexico in about a week.

Hi Patrick - thanks for the follow up....we are very satisfied with theitems we purchased from etrailer.com

by:

This base plate is ideal for our use, it was a relatively easy installation but you will need patience. Probably removing the right amount of Styrofoam at the right locations was the most tedious as you will not get the front body work back on. This was money well spent and the technical assistance from etrailer was invaluable.

2013 Ford Escape

Received base plates in great condition and all the hardware intact. I previously installed base plates on my Ford escape in approx 4 hrs. It took me 8 hrs to inst on the chevy equinox much more involved. T he instructions where to the t. I will be using it to tow behind our motorcoach. I would not recommend the average Joe blow to try installing these which was stated on the box and inst.On page 6 of inst it stated fig 11A and 11B which should read 12A and 12B. The product works as advertised and I recommmend it to those in need.

by:

This is the fourth base plate my brother and I have installed, and probably most complex as it involved making cuts to the vehicle . As always, we received the products ordered from etrailer very promptly. The install was successful, just as we age a little more difficult.

by:

Just what I need. Thanks for making it so easy to purchase and ship.

by:

there should be a special corner in hell for car maufacturers who make such tiny access holes in their frames. I had no clamps, but the jacks worked well [pic]

by:

This baseplate is very well made and sturdy. I would rate it excellent but for 2 flaws:

1. My vehicle has a power steering cooler which the instructions say to relocate on the supplied brackets. Relocating as instructed puts excessive strain on the connecting hoses. I had to cut the pipes and add about 3 inches of rubber hose to the power steering cooler to make it fit comfortably.
2. Blue Ox do not provide any kind of support outside office hours. This type of product is typically installed by the user over a weekend and BO should provide support to their customers during this time.

Overall, I would rate ease of install at 5 (out of 10) excluding the cooler issue.

Hook up to the completed baseplate is a breeze. We have the Aventa II towbar which takes about 2 minutes to connect.

Love this base plate. Blue Ox never seems to fail me. It was pretty easy to install. I did it myself with no help at all. Took about 1.5 hours. And that was at cruise speed. I was in no hurry. It's almost invisible. When I talk to people about it at the campgrounds I have to point it out to them. They don't even notice it.

I love both products. Getting the wire harness was such a good idea. Im happy you had it or I would be using magnetic lights and that would suck. The base plate and tow bar are perfect for towing our GMC. Unfortunately the Blue Ox cover was lost on a drive without the tow vehicle. I think they need to make the straps better to ensure they stay on during no tow driving. That is the only suggestion I have.

Everyone deserves a do over! I sent one that was for this towbar mount but realized it was labeled for the cabling kit.
Now for the real towbar adapter review:
I took about 4 hours to install the mount myself. The instruction were very good and hit most of the issues (if you read and pay attention to the notes!) After installing we have used it extensively. No problems. No sway, no eratic motions, just plain out works. Attaching to the motor home take about 6-8 minutes and you are on the road. I highly recommend the Blue Ox system.

George, I appreciate that when you learned that I really needed the tow plate, that you put a rush on it. You are credit to your Company! I did take some videos as I was installing the tow plate. I do have some suggestions on how to make it easier to install. We are leaving this morning on our trip. Will send after a bit. Thank you! Bud.

I purchased a base plate for a Saturn vue, in 2009, and the Equinox from Etrailer. Wonderful Company and people!! Product has worked flawlessly! Have towed [many] times to the East coast ,from Phoenix Az

by:

Ordered and install base plate over a year ago and finally got to use it a couple of weeks ago because motorhome was in shop waiting on parts. Pandemic and supply chain issues. Anyway, the base plate and accessories work great. Dinghy tracks well. Hardly know it’s back there.

by:
2015 Chevrolet Equinox

Product fit very well on my 2015 Equinox. Only a couple complaints about installation. The instructions did not highlight the use of Loctite in the proper sequence, so it's easy to miss that step if not paying attention. There was one vehicle frame bolt that was no longer needed, but it interfered with one of the large nuts supplied with the kit. It was not easy to remove unless the car was on a hoist. The Base Plate has worked flawlessly on several long trips over the past year.

by:
2010 Chevrolet Equinox

I had the base plate installed by a Blue Ox service shop in Ft. Lauderdale on my 2010 Chevy Equinox. Towed the car behind my motorhome from Florida to Virginia to California to Maine over elevations up to 8,000 feet.

No issues

by:

Product was good. Installation was not as easy as indicated. Placing the nuts on the bolts inside the frame was a bit of a struggle. Once installed the tow bar works well.

Works fine

by:

I bought this product because I have installed and used two other base plates by Blue-Ox and have always been highly satisfied with the design, installation instructions and ease of use of the product.

by:

Works great. Glad I went with the flat tow route rather than dolly. etrailer install videos made selection and installation as easy as possible. Will definitively use etrailer when setting up next tow vehicle.

by:

Best and most efficient Base Plate and removable arms. So easy to use with my Blue Ox Tow assy.

by:

Fit perfectly.....do make sure that the clamps for the cooler do not rub against the A/C coils.

Ordering Blue Ox baseplate from Etrailer was easy and quick. Product was shipped within hours of ordering and arrived at my house one day later. Previous orders with Etrailer have received the same prompt shipping to receipt interval. Quality products at good prices

Excellent product and it is a pleasure doing business with etrailer. This is the third one of these base plates that I have installed over the years on different vehicle. I am very satisfied with them and it is great that when not in use you can hardly tell it's there.
